Adolescent Rheumatology Symposium
This January, the Adolescent Cetnre for Rheumatology hosted their 6th Annual symposium. The virtual event attracted viewers from all over the globe, with topics including:
Nutrition and metabolism in adolescent rheumatology
Machine learning approaches in juvenile-rheumatic diseases
DEBATE – “This house believes conventional immunosuppressants have failed our patients and we should be encouraging the use of targeted biologics from the time of diagnosis”
One of our favourites of many included a talk from Dr Lola Solebo who discussed the COVID-19 pandemic perspectives from families affected by childhood uveitis with some of her patients.
CLUSTER members Vicky Alexiou, Bethany Jebson and Alyssia McNeece presented abstracts of their CLUSTER work during the scientific poster abstracts session. We were also delighted that many of our CLUSTER Champions were also able to attend the event.
About The Centre
UCL
UCLH
GOSH
The Centre for Adolescent Rheumatology Versus Arthritis at UCL UCLH and GOSH is the world’s first centre dedicated to understanding arthritis and related conditions in adolescents.
The Centre is a unique, multidisciplinary research Centre of excellence, hosted jointly by the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, and the Division of Medicine at UCL. It was established in 2012 and is now in its second phase of strategic funding from Versus Arthritis and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSHCC).
The Centre’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of adolescents with arthritis, lupus, myositis and related conditions by undertaking cutting edge research and ensuring that patients have the opportunity to be part of research and clinical trials.
The Centre runs a ‘Young Person’s Focus Group’ involving young people aged between 11-24 years and older who are diagnosed with a rheumatic condition. As with CLUSTER, the Centres Patient involvement and engagement is integral to the work undertaken.
